Workpackage 6: European enlargement and citizenship: the role of HE
Objectives
To analyse the social and economic impacts of EU enlargement on HE member states & accession countries
To compare underlying values and analyse outcomes of case studies in partner countries of how HE plays a regional and international role for citizenship and economic development
To use seminar and website discussions to give an analytical overview of national responses to EU policy
To contribute to end of year policy briefing paper on "HEs potential role within EU regional policy in relation to EU enlargement"
Description of work
Month 9: NL will liaise with relevant partners over publicity, dates and plans for steering group meeting, seminar, analytical strategies and follow up website discussions.
Month 10
: NL hosts steering group meeting and one day seminar. Partners produce presentations and papers for analytical discussion.
Month 11
: UK-SRHE produces time limited website discussion to explore further the underlying values influencing HEs role in promoting citizenship and economic development.
Month 12
: partners will prepare a conference paper.
Month 13
: partners produce a brief guide to policy chapter for the policy document HE Reform, Society and Change: EU enlargement, gender, CE, employment and citizenship.

Expected results
The workpackage will provide:
policy makers, professionals and academics with comparative, analytical findings abut underlying values regarding the role of HE in promoting citizenship and economic development in the context of EU enlargement;
a framework for the network participants to consider future research collaborations and policy issues in the area of EU enlargement, the responsibilities of HE towards their region and wider citizenship concerns
