Workpackage 1: Project start-up, Audit of existing networks and case studies on HE reform. At the end of this WP the network will:
- have established a clear work programme
- exchanged information on decision making procedures, methods of working and existing case studies
- have established a website, communication and software protocols to facilitate effective communication between the partners and other interested parties
Workpackage 2: The changing role of HE: contexts, histories and the development of lifelong learning (LLL) through Continuing Education (CE). At the end of this WP the network will have provided:
- policy makers, professionals and academics with comparative, analytical findings about contexts and histories in selected C and EE countries in relation to the changing role of HE and the development of CE and training in relation to European enlargement;
- a framework for network participants to consider future research collaborations in the area of CE and training.
Workpackage 3: The role of tomorrows HE in fostering gender equity and employment.The workpackage will:
- provide policy makers, professionals and academics with comparative, analytical findings about underlying values regarding the preparation of female students for the labour market across different subject areas;
- enable professionals and academics to exchange and integrate conceptual frameworks regarding HE, gender and the labour market, with a view to future research collaborations.
Workpackage 4: Pilot research collaboration: conditions which affect un/employment for disabled graduates. The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, practitioners and academics with comparable data about employment prospects and outcomes of disabled graduates
- a database of good employability developments in HE for disabled students
- a research based paper targeted at the academic community
- a practice based paper targeted at the practitioner community and policy makers
Workpackage 5: New research collaboration on teaching and learning strategies for visually impaired students. The expected results of the workpacage will be to provide:
- policy makers, professionals and academics with details and comparable data about current contexts and developments for supporting visually impaired students in HE
- a framework for HE providers to consider more comprehensive integration of visually impaired and print disabled students into university life
- a research based publication targeted at the academic community as an end user group and a practice based publication targeted at the practitioner community as an end user group
Workpackage 6: European enlargement and citizenship: the role of HE. The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, professionals and academics with comparative, analytical findings abut underlying values regarding the role of HE in promoting citizenship and economic development in the context of EU enlargement;
- a framework for the network participants to consider future research collaborations and policy issues in the area of EU enlargement, the responsibilities of HE towards their region and wider citizenship concerns
Workpackage 7: Governance challenges for different nation institutions in managing change. The workpackage will:
- provide policy makers, management and academics with comparative, analytical findings and policy guidance about historical, social, political and economic contexts for governance changes in HE.
Workpackage 8: Addressing inequalities of gender participation in institutional decision making systems. The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, management and academics with comparative, conceptual frameworks for gender perspectives in HE
- policy guidance about historical, social and political contexts for internal management and gender issues in relation to governance and HE.
Workpackage 9: Legitimacy, quality and accountability for lifelong learning and higher education. The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, managers and academics with comparative, analytical findings about underlying issues regarding the formulation of quality in HE across European states, in the context of social, political and economic change.
- a framework for the network participants to consider future research collaborations and policy issues in the area of institutional change and quality management.
Workpackage 10: Key features of teaching and learning in the university of tomorrow . The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, professional practitioners and academics with comparative case studies relating to pedagogic change and resistances in different social and political contexts;
- a range of change strategies for policy consideration in the context of European enlargement, access and employability
Workpackage 11: Distance education and the use of technology for tomorrows knowledge society. The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, practitioners and academics with comparative, analytical findings about practical and theoretical considerations pertaining to open and distance learning in different social, economic and political contexts, with reference to management of change and widening participation.
Workpackage 12: Guidance for employment and inclusion: the development of new competencies. The workpackage will provide:
- policy makers, professionals and academics with comparative and innovative perspectives on ways in which HE can provide relevant guidance and student support to diverse students in different social and political contexts.
- a framework for the network participants to consider future research collaborations and policy issues in the area of student support and guidance and employability.
Workpackage 13: Project Management. The workpackage will have:
- established a clear work programme and a detailed consensus on decision making procedures, methods of working and existing case studies. A website and mailbase will have been established and software protocols agreed to provide effective communication between the partners and interested publics.
